I’m glad I didn’t read the reviews before deciding to try Viet Kitchen. I’m puzzled by several terrible experiences that I read about and I wonder if they were all during lunch time or if some of the dishes are not as good as the ones I tried. My experience was phenomenal.
I felt like some Viet or Thai tonight and decided to get delivery from Food Panda. Viet Kitchen offers free delivery (until Jan 7) so I thought I’d give it a try.
First of all, the food was delivered in 21 minutes (to Sheung Wan) which is great except online dining platform told me it would be 50 minutes even though the website promises 30 minutes. I guess Food Panda is just covering their As* but it’s frustrating if you want to make a phone call, hit the shower or run out for a bottle of wine.
I open the bag to find each box clearly marked with its contents including “Spring Roll Sauce”, “Sauce for Squid”, even “Toast for Beef”. Very nice. There’s nothing worse than getting 4 dishes and then finding 6 sauces when you have no idea which goes with which. It destroys the dining experience.
On to the food
Steamed Shrimp & Pork Ravioli $88.00
Light and tasty with lots of succulent filling with and interesting light sauce.
Crispy Pork Spring Rolls $88.00
Classic rolls with a lovely sauce
Pepper Squid $88.00
Thin crisp squid with a spicy pepper mayo sauce. The breading is very light and suits the dish.
Wok-Fried Clams $158.00
Very close to the clams I used to get frequently in Saigon with lots of garlic and chilies. It was so good, I drank the broth.
Saigon Shaking Beef $198.00
Very close to the roasted beef I used to get from the street carts. Very tender and tasty. Although, in Vietnam, I think I was paying around 15 HKD. Oh well.
I’ll be going there to dine some evening as I was thrilled with the quality and presentation of the food, even though it was delivered.
