A day trip to Discovery bay let’s me try the much anticipated Ebeenezer’s! I’ve always wanted to try their kebabs but never got the chance as there are always better restaurants around. Very excited to try it now. Sadly, they don’t offer student discount of 10% on weekends. Anyways, I decided to takeaway and enjoy outside to avoid the service charge and to baste in the sun.
Moreover, the service is absolutely terrible. The staff kept commanding me to sit down quietly even though I wanted to see the staff make it and see if he hygienic standards were met. I understand where they are coming from but don’t appreciate their indecent behavior. Also, the staff taking my order had a very condescending attitude. When I asked about the 3 sauces on the table that you eat with the kebab and if I could still get it having takeaway, they gave me a whole lecture on how the sauce is only for dine in and if I wanted extra, I would have to pay $6 each. So I’m very glad I chose to eat outside.
I tried their chicken gryo kebab which has a star next to it (a recommended choice). I was debating between the chicken tikki, shish taouk and gyros but only the gyros had a star.

Gyros kebab $77
The portion is definitely not worth $77 as it’s quite small and thin. Barely 10 inches total with a small diameter.
However, the taste is impeccable. The chicken is very tender and juicy, with a mild flavor. The chicken is also given generously, each piece being quite thick. I asked for no chilli as I was afraid it would be too overpowering but now I regret it as I wish for some heat.
Speaking of heat, I actually enjoyed this kebab even more with some yuzu chilli from @justgreatsauce that I bought at the DB Sunday market. It made the taste so much better so I highly recommend eating it with chilli.
This is accompanied with some crunchy lettuce and crisp tomatoes that just taste amazing with the soft Lebanese style pita.
The pita is a little bit crisp and very soft, but also quite dry. Especially the folded part which required sauce. Taste is nice and yeasty/bread-y. I saw on their walls you can choose between Lebanese style pita or Greek style pita, with the latter being softer and former being crisper. But the clerk didn’t ask 😬
There is also a really creamy and delicious green sauce that sadly sank to the bottom (but didn’t become soggy or wet at all). The sauce made it very moist and flavorful.
Even though it was a small kebab, I was still satisfied and full after eating it so not a bad lunch.
Also, I really enjoyed and appreciated the packaging. The kebab is wrapped in foil and place in a paper baggie with foil on the inside so it’s super insulated.

💬 Overall, the food here is delicious and authentic (albeit very expensive for fast food) but the service definitely needs improvement. I do want to try their lunch sets as it’s ~$50 but only available on weekdays and from another store.
