Asiaxpat is back with its offer of super mondays - buy 1 main course get 1 free (previously one had to pay for the offer, but perhaps this is one of the good things about an economic downturn). The manager put us at the back of the restaurant near the open kitchen, so it did 2 things to me: make me hungry because of the aromas whaffing out from the kitchen, and also the smell clung to my hair and clothes. But thankfully it wasn't too strong, so I didn't feel like I was in a gas chamber, and the air con was a welcome breeze in this weather. The hommos was a little too creamy for my taste, I prefer the ones with a bit of bite into it. But it was smooth and had just the right amount of lemon juice and seasoning. It came with 4 quarters of pita bread, and when we asked for more, the manager seemed slighted and explained that each mezze came with ONE serving of pita only. Geez, I'll pay for it if that's what you want me to say, so we promptly got another basket of warm pita bread.I had the plat du jour (why do they put it in french?) which was grilled chicken, and my friend had grilled lamb with yoghurt dressing. The presentation was nice, though I noticed that other customers seemed to have a bigger portion of salad than mine (maybe my pita bread tactic didn't go down so well). The lamb seemed a little dry, but my friend said it was OK. My chicken was slightly undercooked, with bits of reddish meat still clinging onto the bone, but it tasted fresh like a french spring chicken is meant to. (maybe that's why the dish was written in french). They only have 2 reds and 2 whites by the glass, we didn't bother with those. They offered sparkling or still, but if you say with a dead pan face "tap water", they do give it to you from a jug, all iced and ready to be poured. Service was passable, the manager appeared mildly condescending, but perhaps that's just my subjective opinion.
