I went to Wakas Mess on the strength of their Open Rice reviews. I was a little hesitant-- of the 14 English reviews, 6 are by non-members and 5 are by accounts with only 1-review. But I'm happy to say that the food is great.

I showed up a little after 2:00pm on a Tuesday, and the restaurant was completely empty. I almost left thinking it was closed, but I peeked back in the kitchen, and the waiter came out and took my order.

Some other reviewers mentioned pappadums-- I didn't get any, but I suppose that had to do with my odd lunching hour.

I'm a huge spicy-food fan, so I pretty much always order the vindaloo-- chicken vindaloo this time-- and I asked them to make it very spicy. Well, I had no complaints. The curry had 5 or 6 large chunks of tender, boneless chicken, and 2 large chunks of potato. The sauce was a fiery deep-red, almost maroon, and was chunky, which is how I like it. I also ordered some samosas. They didn't look like much and their flaky shells were a little bit thin, but the filling was exceptionally good. Maybe a little salty, but tasty all the same. They came with a creamy mint chutney that was also quite good. They also had a little bit of spice to them, which is nice! A

Last night we went to ( WAKAS MESS ) it was our marriage anniversary we order set for 2 person it just cost us HK$218only we get vegetable samosa , chicken tikka, chicken masala, palak paneer, garlic naan, pulav rice , and lassi . the food was really yummy specially chicken masala and palak paneer not so spicy it just taste perfect the food is quite delicious and good enough for 2 person we enjoy alot nice place friendly service we will be back soon thanks to ( WAKAS MESS ) !

今日難得凖時放工，我約左老公同好友一齊去吃咖喱，上次同同事吃完呢間咖喱覺得好好味，所以今次再黎過，今日吃左羊肉卷十咖喱羊十咖喱牛十薄餅！二種咖喱唔同味，薄餅好脆！好特別，真有心思，又唔貴，味道好好，唔會太辣，但係好香，最重要係老板好nice,態度超好！今時今日香港需要呢D服務！以後會keep住去！超好吃啊，一定要去

We friends decided to come here for dinner. We had previously visited once before and had a good first impression.

We finally decided to order samosas, mix grill, butter naan, prawn vindaloo and wakas special fried rice.

First papadums came with fresh mint sauce and they gave us some yogurt also. It went v good with the sauce. I remember we had masala papadum on our last visit and they were v tasty.

Then our lovely breads and the curries came. This is my first time having a wakas fried rice. They were so well cooked and right mixing of vegies and meat inside. The taste was very light and not spicy at all. Chicken korma was nice colour and was a hint of coconut I think, which went well with the subtle spices in the dish. The mutton was surprisingly tender and lean!

Our prawn vindaloo in the right colour, and had the same thickness as the korma but the taste was just right!
I asked for very spicy but I think they understand Chinese customers so they cooked it medium spicy which was v good for us. We diden have to drink so much water and we had spicy but manageable spicy food. Butter naan and wakas special friend rice were good with the spicy sauce.

It was spicy but we enjoy the dinner. Want to try other dishes next time.

Last Tuesday had a farewell lunch with my friend as he was going back to USA that evening. Since he likes Indian food a lot, we decided to try Wakas Mess. For lunch time, no booking service is provided. But we arrived at 12:30pm, there was not much ppl there. So it was good, no need to wait for table.

We didn't order the set lunch. Instead, we had tried lamp samosa and vegetable pakora as appetizers. Chicken tikka and palak paneer as main courses, with paneer naan and galic naan. And we tried Mango lassi and masala tea.

All the dishes were very tasty, and not very spicy. We especially like the and chicken tikka. Mango lassi was really good as well. It matched with the food. But my friend said that masala tea also ok.

For the service, it's good too. The waiter kept re-filling water for us.

very very tasty and wonderful, especially the mutton rogan josh and mutton curry, very delicious that i never had, it’s a simple resturent but well ait con in this hot weather, the food is really really tasty.

New people, new atmosphere, new dishes and everything looked new. While being surpised a small guy came to take our order, well dressed and speak good English. One evening I finished work and I was passing by the chung king mansion with a colleague. We had a tiring day and wanted to eat some quality but reasonable price food.

He suggested that lets checkout the Indian restaurants at the chung king mansion. We saw a guy coming towards us and he handed us his restaurant name card called Wakas Mess. We reached this confortable and friendly looking restaurant. We placed order and enjoyed Indian Ice Rose tea. It was surly tasty and satisfying.
Rest of the food came on time and rightly cooked. We enjoyed biryani, mutton korma, green salad, and chicken tikka with mint sauce and etc. It was a wonderful evening and we heard some lovely Indian music as well.

Bill came so reasonable. I could not believe that we have eaten so much and yet bill came so reasonable.

Surly recommend others to visit and surly will go back!

2.It was a weekend and I was out with my friend for some reasonable dinning we were in Tsim Sha Tsui and my wife suggested going to this restaurant Called Wakas Mess. She said she has been there many times with her friends and it offers very yummy food. We decided to go there and took the lift to the 4th floor.

We found the restaurant manager right at the door to welcome us and he led us to the table. The restaurant had very cool, dim light n romantic type of environment with music being played. Through we diden understand the songs but music was not bad.

My wife has tried most of the dishes there but we were new so we asked the waiter to give some recommendations beside my wife’s suggestions.

Waiter was able to explain about the different dishes and suggested us few dishes. I love one thing that he did ask us whether we would like our food to be Very Spicy, Medium Spicy or Mild. I had this bad experience once at an Indian restaurant in central where they brought be super spicy chicken curry n I could not eat it and ended up wasting my money.

We ordered Mango Lassi, Rose tea, Samosa, Mix Tandoori grill, Rogan Josh, Chicken Biryani, Garlic Naan.

We asked them to offer some Indian dish out of the menu and surpassingly they brought this dish called Kadahi Paneer and Prawn Mint Masala. I think this must be their Chef’s special dish as it tasted just amazing!!!
Food came on time, fresh, hot, tasty, well cooked, mild as we asked and the best thing it diden make us feeling sick after eating it as my some bad experience at some Indian restaurants. It was indeed pleasant! I would rate this restaurant

We friends were searching for a Party venue for a friend’s Birthday celebrations. We had been discussing and searching many places and an evening one of friend suggested that why don’t you try Wakas Mass in the Chung King Mansion, TST as it’s a lovely restaurant for the quality food and value for the money.

We considered giving it a try and after discussing all the details with the manager we selected it. Manager seemed to be educated and expert at his job. He ensured that our experience and party will go as planned.

On the evening of party we went earlier to check if we can have what we were really expecting. We reached the restaurant and found they had done Beautiful Decoration just according to the occasion.

Later Birthday Boy came, we all showed him the restaurant and he liked it. It was a relief!

They allowed us to create our own menu beforehand which was a customized service. We really appreciated their corporation and friendly suggestions.

We had been to many restaurants in Hong Kong but we never had such experience before where food was tasty and great value for the money. It was just the right choice.

We ordered in our menu: Seafood Alu, Chicken leg, Beef bhuna, Tandoori mix grill, green masal masala, Mix naan, and etc.

Our comments on food: Drinks were cold and made perfectly especially Mango Lassi. It never had drunk this yummy lassi anywhere in HK. Meat was tender, juicy, flavourful and fresh. Curries were well cooked, well blended and well tasted. Dessert was India freshly made Gulab jamun (milk ball) and my friends just loved it!

Our Comments on Service: Most of all their service was excellent, we had a feeling that we are at a High end restaurant the way they cared about each and every thing and the way they offered their service to each of the guest even though we were like 35 people. They managed everything very efficiently.

題外話/補充資料： After the mango lassi we order snack, we wanted to try Samosas, samosa came on the right time, they were so crispy, freshly made and just the right taste for us as we don’t eat very spicy food. Mint sauce was in little cute bowl and the mint sauce went perfectly with the samosas. They also gave us free Papadams as well. 08/10 Papadams + samosa + Then we ordered our all friends favorite Chicken Tandoori and Chicken Tikka. We asked the waiter to explain us whats the difference in Chicken Tandoori and Chicken Tikka? He was able to explain very well that Chicken Tandoori comes with the Bone in meat and Chicken Tikka comes Boneless. We have heard from some friends that Tandoori items taste great as they are made in Clay Oven. We ordered Chicken Tandoori, Seekh Kabab and Raita. Food tasted so delicious and it was certainly worth trying. We loved dipping of meat in Raita. It was worth eating every day. 08/10 Chicken tikka + Seekh kabab + Raita Jack ordered Panner Makhni which he says he had tried before and taste superb. So we ordered Paneer Makhni, Panner Pratha, Lamb Briyani, beef Vindalao and Rogan Josh. Food came within reasonable time and everything just tasted good and we could not find any issues with the food as before we used to think the food at Chung king Mansion may not be quality food but this restaurant totally changed our perception. We indeed enjoy the food in a cool environment with some nice music Bollywood songs at the back. Paneer Makhni + Panner Pratha + Lamb Biryani + beef Vindalao + Rogan Josh. I will surly visit this friendly and delicious restaurant again with more friends. Bill came as expected but we still asked for some discount and we got it  .

My cousin from China was on a trip to Hong Kong and this was the first time she was in TST. We were roaming around and suddenly she said that she wants to try indian food as she has heard its very famous in hong kong. I had been to TST countless times but I have mostly avoided a place such as Chung king Mansion due to lots of foreigners and strange shops. It was kind of unknown place for many of us as we never felt like to go there but since we were near by the Chung King Mansion. My cousin kept on insisting and she encouraged me to give it a try.

We found this man standing just outside the Chung King Mansion with his restaurant card, we told him we have got no idea about this building and we want to try some indian food. He encouraged us to try their restaurant and he took us all the way to the restaurant through we had to wait a while for the lift.

At the Restaurant: It had a nice environment with some lovely painting hanging on the wall and melodious music being played. It diden take us long to select the dishes as the menu had most of the items pictures so we had a clear idea about the each item. We asked for some details and waiter offered plenty of details for us to choose the food.

Finally, we ordered famous Indian Mango Lassi, Naan, Tandoori mix grill, lamb Briyani, fish pot and beef masla. Food was just the right texture, taste, and most of all it was perfectly cooked according to the Chinese customers’ taste requirement. It was Mild as we ordered. My cousin just loved it and she is a big fan of Indian Food now. She rated it 10/10.

We strongly recommend everyone to try their food and enjoy the tasty food in a relaxing atmosphere.

成日都話想去食架哩…… 但係唔知邊間好食…. 係Openrice 見到哩間好似唔錯… 就去左試試… 我地星期六8點幾去到…. 都幾full 下…. 不過我地兩個人.. 所以唔使等…. 望一望個manual… 就決定食..烤雞…… (好似五香烤雞好食D….)架哩蝦……(D架哩好好味…. 唔太辣… 配薄餅一流…)原味薄餅….. (下次可以試試其他)有下次......
