I had the pleasure of dining at this exquisite Shanghai restaurant recently, and I couldn't wait to share my experience.

From the moment I stepped in, the ambiance struck me—a perfect blend of elegance and comfort, with a view that adds a magical touch to the dining experience. The staff greeted us warmly, and their attention to detail was impeccable throughout the evening.

Now, let's talk about the food, which was nothing short of spectacular:

- Shanghai Smoked Fish (上海燻魚):
The fish was smoked to perfection, with flavors that danced on the palate.

- Explosive Oil River Shrimp (油爆河蝦): These shrimps were succulent and bursting with a spicy kick that left us craving for more.

- Drunken Crab in Shaoxing Wine (花雕醉蟹): This delicacy was a highlight. The crab, marinated in fine Shaoxing wine, had absorbed all the aromatic goodness.

- Eel Paste with Shiang Oil (響油鱔糊):
We opted for a medium serving. The eel was tender, and the Shiang oil brought a unique depth to the dish.

- Steamed Tiger Grouper with Pickled Vegetables and Chili in the Snow (雪裏紅蒸黃皮老虎斑):
It was a showstopper. The fish was steamed to perfection, and the pickled vegetables provided a tangy counterbalance to the sweetness of the fish.

- Camphor Tea Smoked Duck (樟茶鴨):
A whole duck that was a true testament to the chef's skill—smoky, flavorful, and utterly delicious.

- Rice Pot with Crab Meat and Fish Maw (蟹粉花膠煲飯):
A large pot that was the perfect finale to our meal. The combination of crab meat and fish maw with the rice was divine.

Each dish was a testament to the chefs' mastery over traditional Shanghai cuisine, with a flair that made each bite memorable.

I can't recommend this restaurant enough. Whether you're a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and visit this culinary haven. You'll leave with a full belly and a heart full of joy.

It was our 13 years anniversary and my husband knows that I love Chinese food, he chose the Merchant to celebrate our day. Food was delicious, as I love seafood, and the sauce made me curious how to make this perfect match!
Wine is lovely, some sparkling and my favourite Pinot Noir, adding more romance to the meal.
Atmosphere was fascinating, looking at the Harbour and Carnival, enjoying the beautiful Hong Kong. 💜

Thank you Chef for making such nice dishes and especially thank you Ryan arranging this unforgettable experience to us🩵

— Hard to go wrong with. The tea aroma was perfectly balanced and the eggs were well cooked. They’re finished with a generous amount of caviar to give them that luxurious touch and umami boost.

— Prawns were fresh with a springy texture. The salted egg yolk paste was so decadent and flavourful and coated the prawns evenly.

— A signature dish and a must-try when coming here! The duck was super flavourful after having been marinated in green onions and salted overnight. The meat was also incredibly tender and juicy too. It’s smoked with Jasmine tea leave to give it that lovely aroma that lingers on your palate. This comes with a piping hot serving of buns which went perfectly with the duck!


Pic 5️⃣: 紅油抄手 / 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐖𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢 𝐎𝐢𝐥 - $128 hkd 🌶️
— Pretty good! The wontons were well stuffed and the meat to veggie ratio was perfect too. The sauce is more on the sweeter side, and I tend to prefer more savoury flavours when it comes to dumplings. The chili oil used was aromatic and definitely had a kick to it!


Pic 6️⃣: 揚州大煮乾絲 / 𝐒𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐨𝐟𝐮 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞 - $188 hkd 🥬
— This was a huge disappointment as it tasted like nothing 😂 I thought the chicken consommé would be rich and flavourful, but it honestly just tasted like water. As a result, the dried tofu shreds and vegetables weren’t able to absorb any flavour.

— Super crispy on the outside, and had a great crunch. Filling was well seasoned too.

本身同屋企人都幾鍾意食上海菜既,但網上睇The Merchants既評論就好壞參半既😅但聽完表姐推介話好食就試一試啦!雞冷盤都唔錯,肉質剛好又不會太肥👍津白味道正常幾款菜中最鍾意就係鱔糊,味道同質感都適中👍有機會再嚟食飯的話就再試埋個醉蟹先😁餐廳環境不錯坐得舒適👍但美中不足是餐廳waiter給人一種傲慢既感覺,可能是地理位置問題令他們產生優越感,如果態度親切一點會令環境氣氛好一點🥰🥰🥰

←同女朋友禮拜六去食晚飯,預留咗醉蟹,煙燻鴨依兩樣餸需要 48個鐘前預訂。去到再叫咗獅子頭,蔥油餅,鱔糊,水晶肴肉,所有食物非常淡口,預留嘅煙燻鴨太為失望,因為我無煙熏味同好乾,有點隔夜feel。獅子頭好難食,入邊仲係粉紅色好似未熟,鱔糊直程搞唔掂 ,唯一預留左HKD1470的醉蟹OK幾好食,好甜重好新鮮。埋單差唔多$3000⋯⋯我覺得佢哋嘅質素只值三份一嘅價錢。但係除咗個醉蟹冇乜特別吸引我下次再去。

話說第一次下午去嗰度食飯, 叫咗條松鼠東星斑, waiter話一斤左右, 點不知黎到係差唔多兩斤, 四個人食超級大條, 其他餸我都要取消, 嗰個新嚟嘅侍應完全冇training, 之後有個經理走過嚟道歉 話嗰個係新同事唔好意思,佢送甜品作為補償。我見經理咁好嘅服務態度, 所以我就book咗24/9 生日飯, 點不知過兩三日經理話reception搞錯咗booking, 我話當日你都話冇問題, 原來有另外一個客係老闆個朋友, 想要兩間private room, 所以就要cancel我個booking, 唔係先到先得?呢位老闆咁做生意真係唔掂, 千祈唔好幫襯佢, 嘢食同服務態度極差, 居然個老闆咁對啲客, 完全冇尊重個客, 老闆個朋友一句話要兩間房, 就要唔理啲客, 咁不如唔好打開門口做生意。

Beautiful restaurant with great service。要特别表扬一位服务生,看到我发抖主动问我要不要披肩,还拿了一条跟我衣服颜色匹配的,很有心了。其他服务员也都很得体。窗边的座位非常舒服,桌子上撒着香港许久未见的午日阳光。推荐十八斩,口感甜糯鲜香,不枉费提前预定的期待。朋友说比甬府的更加好吃。脆鳝也很美味。整体口味都很不错,基本被我们吃光光了。推荐给喜欢吃螃蟹的朋友们,值得一试。

Got invited by a friend for a Sunday lunch. Private room is arranged. And only one dining group in the hall that afternoon. Had a tour at Forty-Five. Love the art pieces and interior design. The view of the rooftop bar is spectacular. Unfortunately overpriced for an average quality of drink. Definitely have to catch up with other bars in the same area. Drunken Crab with 25-years Hua Diao Wine
This is my very first time to try raw crabs. Always not a big fan of raw crabs.


Pretty sweet. A bit unbearable. Maybe some toasts or rice can be a good match to go with the crab to lower down the sweetness?

Clay pot Rice with Crab Meat and Fish Maw
First of all, it’s not served or cooked in a clay pot. At the end they serve this crab on top of plain rice. A bit disappointed. And I could barely see the fish maw.

Average. Nothing special. Their siu long bao is up to standard.


Overall, food quality definitely need to be improved a lot to match with the high class interior and great atmosphere. Or else, they’ll have difficulties to attact guests to come back.

8月4日生日晚飯,家人亦预備了蛋糕。切餅費是$500/1個。由進場至主食完畢,照呼和食物都是預期之内、雖然后段人流較多時,餸菜突然慢了但也理解!主食完畢后,我们便要求上蛋糕、大約等待了15分鐘仍未上蛋糕、我們便向一名穿著“什色“西裝服務人仕查詢(全場服務人仕都是黑色制服,只有他是什色、相信他是較高層吧)但換來一吐氣😡他向我回覆時,態度自我、傲視並漠視客人要求!我說一句、他駁3句,主要教導我:他們做事是要時間的⋯雖然有6星级的環境、但只有1個人的不專業便可全破壞。不管任何一個層次消费,我從未遇過這麽低檔的服務!

Dinner for 2. Ordered a la carte as set menu was not available. Here’s what we had.Appetizers 醉蟹素鵝(Bean Curd Sheet Rolled with Mushrooms)- good. Crispy on the outside; moist inside.蔥燒關東遼參- good. No crispy exterior but very 爽.上海油淋雞- chicken with a vinegary sauce with spring onions, scallion and garlic. Not “crispy” at all as stated on menu. Still good.
