Since moving to Hong Kong, the number one thing I have a hard time finding and I sorely miss from Canada is a good bowl of pho. I think every time I fly home to Canada, I down bowls of it. Mostly just rice noodles in an MSG laden soup. Yes, there are some with that are good and close to the ones I have in Canada but they are also so expensive. I mean ... almost $100 for a bowl of pho!

But I think I've found it! I think I've found a place in Hong Kong where the pho is almost like the excellent ones I have in North America and Australia. AND? It only costs $38! This place is in Jordan. It's actually a slight walking distance from Tsim Sha Tsui's Kowloon Park. When we found it, it was packed with expats! A good sign! Because expats are like me. We are all trying to find pho that reminds us of home without the high price.

Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. You order by checking off what you want on the menu. They offer a basic bowl of pho with at $34 that includes one choice of topping. Additional toppings are $8 each. You then choose the type of soup and noodle. Or you can choose cold vermicelli for $36. They also offer appetizers.

I noticed that they had a bottle of hand sanitizer for use at each table along with wet tissues for wiping your hands. Also, prior to entry to the restaurant, they checked every diner's temperature before letting them in. They seemed to provide every chance to reassure diners that they are taking the COVID-19 seriously. As a medical professional, I'm impressed. I haven't encountered this in other restaurants.

All rice or noodles orders come with a hot drink or add $3 for a cold one. Special drinks are only an additonal $8. I ggot a regular ice tea but boyfriend upgraded $8 for a fresh coconut. It came in a glass  of coconut water with chunks s of freshly grated coconut pulp in it. Boyfriend liked it and it didn't feel canned.

I wanted vegetables so we ordered spicy Stir fried water spinach ($24). This was really good though a bit on the spicy side. Probably why boyfriend ate lots! Not too oily but was the water spinach was very fresh.

We also shared chicken wings with garlic butter ($18). This arrived in a cute little basket with a Vietnamese straw hat. The chicken wings were not oily like most places.  This is something I hate whenever we order this. The wings were moist and juicy.

Locomotive Signature ($68) was definitely bigger than we expected! And what a bargain! There were so many items: medium rare beef, beef shank, shitake mushrooms, shirataki, beef tripe, beef tendon, lettuce, jews ear, Vietnamese beef sausage, tofu puffs and enoki mushrooms. We chose a beef soup and was surprised. It was rich without the usual pumped up MSG taste. Clear yet rich beef broth shone through. The noodles were perfectly cooked.

The toppings weren't small and skimpy. Like this tendon. How huge was this? Definitely surprising.

We also ordered a cold rice vermicelli ($36) with grilled lemongrass pork cutlet and shrimp paste cake ($8) as we didn't anticipate the locomotive to be that big. We've been to so many places where portions are not very big at all. The cold vermicelli portion was pretty generous as well. The sauce was provided in a small plate and was just enough to coat it. The pork chop was moist and not dry. It was perfectly seasoned. The shrimp paste cakes were my favorite. Crispy coating with nice firm meat.

No wonder the place was packed with expats! The food was excellent. Portions were more than generous.  Will definitely be back.
